The book was the most hilarious thing I remember reading as a teenager but it was very, very long. The movie has a phenomenal cast but presumably due to the massive amount of material they needed to get through, it feels rushed. The dialogue feels rushed and so does the overall production. They also apparently didn't take any time to find a good support cast because the acting was terrible.
Annie Potts was the best, by far. Jeff Bridges has given better performances. They should have made it into a mini series like they did for Lonesome Dove so they could explore the characters more. Larry McMurtry can give depth and realism to characters more than any other author and to waste his gift and the talents of Annie Potts and Jeff Bridges in a rushed movie like this was a terrible disappointment.
